Bigfoot Encounters

Siskiyou County, California 2009

Dear Bigfootencounters
We don't want to give away location other than to say this cabin retreat we owned is in northern California. We are retired, come up here in summer and at Christmas time.
As you may know, we had early snows up here this year (2009), some areas quite deep.

Each time we come up here, we do a little construction and repair work, hoping to make the cabin how we want it, eventually. We have had little time to hunt up here or do any hiking around for the repair work the cabin cleanup demands. I am writing this report from the cabin for your interest and to record some of the behaviors we talked to you about by phone earlier.

Two years ago, we noticed some disturbance around the trash bins, which we keep locked because of bears in the area. I thought it odd though, that while the trash bins had been moved, there were no claw marks or bite marks on the lids as we might expect to see if this was bear work.

That same week something scattered a full cord of stacked wood all around the backyard. Stacking a full cord of fireplace wood is a painstaking job and I did not appreciate having the source of our winter heat thrown all around the backyard. My anger was apparent.

The backyard is not fence but is open into heavy timber. There are no other cabins at this end of the road and it takes 4WD to get in here summer and winter. We are very remote.

Then two winters ago, we noticed tracks across the yard in what was then, three inches of snow. Not one pair but a goodly sized barefooted track and a smaller track about the same size as my size 7 boot.  We didn't think they were resident bigfoot but more like passersby because we didn't see the tracks again for a long while.

Last summer my husband bolted together a ready-made redwood picnic table we bought from Home Depot and set it out in the backyard, about 20 feet from the backdoor and still in range of the yard lights to enjoy eating dinner outside in the summertime. The table required bolting together in several places and after he was finished with it, came into the cabin leaving his tool belt and such out on the table all night.  Rested, the next morning my husband went out to retrieve and clean up his tools and survey his work. The tool belt was gone. Some of those tools are valuable, some were passed down to him by his father.

We hunted and hunted for those tools and never found a sign of where they were but suspected the maker of those snow tracks. Could that be? We discussed it among ourselves and decided there wasn't much we could do about it but watched the following night from the darkened cabin; no yard lights, no smoke from the chimney, nothing but moonlight filtering through the trees.  Finally we caught a glimpse of the thieves. As best we could make out, there is a male, noticeably wide and tall, bearded and quite the clown. There is also another male, smaller, maybe about my height of 5'5" or so, we aren't sure. He is a wide fellow too...you know, husky? Thick, stocky like.

The two came into the yard and seem to be fascinated by the redwood picnic table my husband built. The larger one often getting upside-down to look under the table and the little one, sitting on the benches, slinging his legs over exactly like they must have seen us do. The smaller one also climbed onto the table top and laid on his back. Funny peculiar?! The smaller one has no facial hair, has dark hair that drapes about his shoulders in a sort of dreadlock looking arrangement. His thighs were very thick and stocky. Then they left and about an hour later came back and went through the same ritual, more or less playing with that picnic table and then they left again. I didn't hear anything but my husband thought he heard laughter. We did not see them again that night but my husband was amused that these creatures might have laughed at his handiwork.

On the third morning after the tool belt was taken, the leather portion of the tool-belt (minus the tools) was left on top of the table. Of course it was the tools that are valuable to my husband.

In any event, noting this behavior is what you wanted me to talk about, right?.

We are still hoping the tools will be returned, but not so far. Next trip into town, we will get berries like you suggested and leave them out for the creatures, hoping of course the tools will be returned. It's not looking good at this point and frankly between the mischief they did with the cord of wood and our trash cans, I am fed up!!

I will contact you again soon,
