Bigfoot Encounters

Berner's Bay - N. of Juneau Alaska September 2010

I saw that you had a link for people to report an encounters or sightings of Bigfoot.   I live near Juneau, Alaska and well, here is my encounter...

Last September I was out camping near Berner's Bay (Southeast Alaska) in a Forest Service Cabin with my wife. We had hiked 2miles from road into the cabin, the surrounding area is muskeg, old growth trees mostly western Hemlock and sitka spruce . It had been really dry for the previous month and had just started raining the day before, so the trail was wet and muddy. Once we got to the cabin I started a fire (around 6pm) and cooked steaks on it. Once the steaks were cooked, we went inside to have dinner.

At about 8pm (2 hours after sundown) we started hearing the weirdest calling from the trees to the south of the cabin (no more that 200 yards away). One animal would call (kind of like a bellowing whoop, like an a high pitched "OOOO" (unlike a wolf) and the response was a shorter "OOOOO" sound that warbled briefly and stopped abruptly.

They actually moved past the cabin (South to North) and then started calling from the northern side. They were calling to each other all night. They moved away from the area with the calls getting further away, at around 5am. This coincided with the dawn breaking.

One weird thing was that when I went out side,  I'd shout "Hey Bear" or clap (due to the fact the area is inhabited by both black and brown bears, who most definitely would have been drawn to the area by the smell of cooking). A number of times I clapped to see if I could elicit a call. This worked.  Once the "Hey Bear" got a response. I also tried to copy the 1st call sound and got a response once but no response the second time. It was seriously the weirdest sound I have ever heard!

During the night the dog was extremely anxious, although she never barked nor growled. Which I can only take as an indicator that the animals made no attempt to approach the cabin.

It wasn't threatening but due to the amount of Sasquatch literature I've read (namely about their propensity to predate dogs) I kept the dog close by and when I let her out I kept the gun in hand.

This happened at the end of September, in a remote area approx 2 to 3 miles from the road system in a coastal area. Topography is flat with plenty of tree cover and muskeg. The cabin is close to a creek which has a very health run of Coho salmon at that time of year. There are numerous bears (both black and brown) present in the area. Wolves and deer are also present as are some moose. The weather had been abnormally dry for the previous 3 weeks and it had just rained the previous day before our arrival, which would have meant that there would be an abundance of Coho salmon in the local creek. I'd speculate that if it was Sasquatch I heard, they would have been utilizing the fish as food resource....

That's the story of my encounter. No visual contact (at least on my part, although I'm sure the Sasquatch (if it was sasquatch) observed me) but certainly mind blowing from a personal perspective.  I can identify animal calls and also have interacted with enough of Alaska's animals to know what I am talking about.

Let me know what you think of my encounter. I submitted it to the BFRO and got no reply. In retrospect I should have tried to record the sounds and searched the area for foot prints but due to the dense cover and chances of a bear encounter I decided against it.

I'm considering returning there next September (2011) with a friend to see if we can have another encounter. This time we'll be armed with both photographic and audio recording equipment.

I'd love to hear what your thoughts are about this and whether it fits with previous sasquatch encounters?

Thanks,
No name please, Juneau is a small town...
