Uncompahgre National Forest, Montrose County, Colorado
July 2000

I don't live in Colorado. All I know is that it was 1 hour north of Telluride, about 8 hours southwest of Denver. I am pretty sure that I have seen Bigfoot. I was camping in Colorado with a friend. We had gone up there to see a band play. We got there a day before the show started, so we got a campsite about 1 hour away from Telluride, Colorado — all the hotels in Telluride were not vacant. We were sitting on the back of my car at I guess 8:30 pm on the 1st of July. This campground was pretty big and it was just in a big field off the side of the road. With the showers in a building near the middle of the campground. This was the only building at this campsite; it had the main office in the front of it. There was only about 4 other groups staying there that night. We were sitting on the back of my car just talking about the show the night before and talking about how good the next show would be. As we were talking we heard a strange howling noise, like nothing I have ever heard before, I don't know how to explain it. It was coming from the tree line about 200 yards away from where we were. We didn't really think anything of it because even though we didn't think that it sounded normal we were in a different state then what we lived and thought maybe they had different types of animals here. Like different kinds of mountain lions or bears.

We kept talking and then we heard it a little closer. Then we really thought this was weird. We stopped talking and stared at the direction the noise came from, although the light was not good. About five minutes later we both saw a dark figure standing near the tree line facing our direction. It stood about 8 ft. you couldn't really tell from where we were, but when we went there the next morning as I tell you later, I had made a mental mark on the tree where his head was at and he may have even been slightly slouched over and was a dark color from what I could see. This thing stood very upright and its arms hung down far probably to its knees. I could not see any detailed features because of the distance but I know for a fact that it was not a bear or anything that I have ever seen of or even heard about before.

There was a wind blowing towards our direction and there was a smell that was very disturbing. It smelled like rotten eggs and skunk combined. It stayed in that position until we got into my car and we were going to drive closer to it probably about 50 ft. from it because we thought it couldn't hurt us in my car.

I have a Montero 4x4 vehicle. As soon as we turned the car around and flipped the headlights on it, the creature started at a fast walk across the field staying close to the tree line and then went back into the woods. While he was moving we drove toward the creature at a pretty good pace to see a closer look at it. We decided not to go all the way to the tree line in our car as we might get in trouble. So we drove back to the tent and went to bed. Although we had quite a bit of trouble and were very nervous, thinking that since he saw the car and us that he might come to our campsite, but nothing happened. The next morning we woke up early, I would say 8 o'clock, put on clothing and headed to where he stood. When we got to it we saw massive footprints human like. The footprint was about 5 inches wide and 16 inches long. The impression was pushed in the ground I'd say at least an inch and a half, it was not muddy either the ground was firm. That's all I have hopefully this might help. I really do believe what we saw was Bigfoot. I never believed in this stuff until this happened. When I go back to Telluride next July I will stay at this site again and hopefully be able to get pictures of this thing if it is even still around. I really do believe that is what it was, but I don't want to talk with anyone or make a big deal about it. I don't want people to think that I am making up stuff or just pulling a prank so I would rather not have anymore contact. I just wrote this to you so that you would be notified of a possible sighting of this in Colorado. Thank you.
