1870 - Grayson County, California

The Butte Record, Grayson County, California November 5, 1870.

The Butte Record contains a detailed account of a sighting of a male gorilla or wildman about 5 feet high and disproportionately broad, covered with dark cinnamon-colored hair, which whistled and played with burning sticks from a hunter's campfire. Later the man saw a female join it. The story contains references to several reports of sighting of similar creatures.
