The Gordon Chaplin article refers to series of sightings near Whitemarsh in swamps around Bird River. Richard and Elva Stewart, the only ones specified, were cutting brush near a grove of trees when they heard branches breaking, smelled odor like swamp water and then saw something about eight feet tall with two red eyes as they ran away.
